THE BRIEF: A RESTAURANT REFURBISHMENT
My first restaurant refurbishment in early 2017, Ostlers at Number 1, Worcester. The restaurant needed an update, with an aim to create at least four extra covers. Heavy foot-flow and consistent bums-on-seats resulted in a some-what exhausted looking space.
This really is a beautifully intimate restaurant based next to Worcester's race course. Walk past this little gem any day of the week and you could easily be mistaken for thinking you'd been transported to a back street in continental Europe.
DURING (WITH EXTRA 'HELPERS')
There's a natural buzz here, and I wanted to retain the charm of this special emporium; no one-stop-shop for the design, but an eclectic collection of objet d'art, making each table and space of the restaurant, a personal one.
After a team consoltation with both staff and builders, we decided to move the bar to the middle of the restaurant; a real delight to witness this busy hub when dining here, now that the project's complete.
I introduced a much lighter colour scheme, mover over dark tones, we'll see you next time perhaps. Lighter greys with pops of deep grey, burnt orange and living greenery was the concept and I really am proud of the result here.
I also introduced a wall, dedicated to presenting local-artist's work which I have to admit, is one of my favourite spots. It really does speak about what this restaurant stands for; sourcing locally and creating a community of friends over fine wine and delicious food.
